Messing with unemployment is almost like political suicide. People don't want to vote for you if you're going to try to take away unemployment.  

I'm from Muhlenberg County. Graduated high school in 1968 and got the hell out.  I had spent my youth - age four to twelve - in Detroit, so I needed to get back to the world.  I go back for class reunions and it's bittersweet.  Meth labs, poverty, illiteracy, the 'home' of the KKK is in a neighboring county.  It's disheartening.  My grandpa, a Yellow Dog Democrat, used to talk about giving people a hand up, not a hand out.  There are, or were, basic Democratic Party values in Kentucky at one time, but not any more.  The Republicans have ruined everything. "And, Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County?  Down by the Green River where Paradise lay?  Well, I'd like to my son, but there's no sense in asking...Mr. Peabody's coal truck has hauled it away."

So, the Republican'ts have been saying all along that the stimulus package was an abject failure.  However, it is becoming more and more apparent that the economy is beginning to recover. It has been shown that the stimulus bill is a success.  

The Republican'ts voted overwhelmingly against the bill, and thus it has become associated solely with the Democrats and with President Obama. They have to try to bring about an end to the economic benefits of the stimulus, even if it means screwing over their constituents (even more than normally). Ergo, the Republican'ts are in a political death race to halt the recovery of the nation, otherwise, come November there will be virtually none of them left in Congress.

How can any sane or insane person (who thinks logically) can stand and object to a measure that includes unemployment compensation extensions and use of Recovery Act funding for SBA?

These are the very same people who will vote against any form of healthcare reform for people who are unemployed and have NO MONEY for family care.  (I KNOW that provisions of reform will not take effect until 2013 or 2014) but the principle still stands.

Hey, that guy named Dick made a point!  And that guy named Bunny...er Bunning completely ignored it!  How dare DICK bring up the past!  That was like...so long ago!  Things have changed.  Stupid DICK.  Plus how can we bring down the President if we allow things like unemployment benefits to be extended?!  Sheesh.  Look at things from our view point for once!!

Plenty of time and attention, plus no-bid government contracts to Goldman Sachs (where did the current and former Treasury Secretaries work before they went into government? Hint:  Two words in the first sentence.) but to put money into the one economic class that has been the engine of economic growth for a generation (that's right, consumers) seems to be antithetical to the "gentleman" from Kentucky.

You'd think they could find someone without dementia in all of Kentucky to send to Congress.  What scares me is that a majority of people VOTED for this guy!

Bunning is, has been, and always will be out of touch with how real people live.

 It just reiterates in my mind just how despicable as well as how desperate the Republicans have become, being so anti-worker and anti-family, that they are always putting politics along with their interests and their party's interests before the interests of the American People. It's not fair and it's just plain wrong. They're playing a very dangerous game of russian roulette,  trying to sabotage the Obama Administration and their attempts to revive the economy and create jobs, making the Democrats look like failures, in the hope that the Republican Party will eventually return to power while at the same time risking self destruction, all at our expense, the American People, because they couldn't care less about us. I for one hope it blows up in their faces and they self destruct. And Stumpgunner, you are right. It's not so much their fault as it is the idiots, morons and losers who keep re-electing these fucktards, the worst of which seem to come from Kentucky, i.e. Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell. I for one won't be voting for another Republican again for a long time if this is what their mentality has become.

Bunning was dead-on right about this point. Where is the money going to come from.The problem is he is a complete hypocrite about it because it never stopped him in past from voting in favor of same type of bills . He even promoted it during one of his election campaigns.If he was consistant about it thru out his career, I would give the guy a parade.
He is nothing more ,unfortunatly , than another grandstanding,  limelight seeking, politico. He didn't do any of this for principles so that makes him one of the worst! He messed with peoples lives just to make a point he doesn't truly believe in!
