Ok, so here is yet another reason to be disappointed in the state I live in. I'm just happy it didn't happen in my area.

A Nothern Mississippi high school cancelled the prom for everyone when a lesbian student wanted to bring her girlfriend to the prom. School policy says you are only allowed to bring a date of the opposite sex, but Constance McMillen wanted to change that.

And the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi tried to help her. However, the school just decided to the cancel the prom instead of allowing same sex couples at the prom.

What a cowardly way to get out of allowing gay students to go to the prom with their spouses.

They allowed us to go to the prom and homecoming with members of the same sex in my high school. I live on the coast of Mississippi though. We tend to be more liberal than the rest of the state.

Anyway, this just pissed me off. It's not a big deal and they're making it into one. Just let the kids go with who they want. Who cares if they're the same sex?

Wake up, Mississippi!! Stop trying to live in the past and embrace the future!!

(This is the kind of thing that helped me decide to go back to college soon and get a political science degree.)
